2000-year-old ‘Jesus boat’ surfaces in the Sea of Galilee

The Jesus Boat was discovered by two brothers, Moshe and Yuval Lufan, on the shore of the Sea of Galilee by Kibbutz Ginosar. World famous nautical archeologist Shelly Wachsmann arrived to Israel from Texas A&M to lead the excavation. The Jesus Boat evokes thoughts about if Jesus and his disciples could really have traveled on this vessel. It provides a glimpse into Jesus‘ life around the Sea of Galilee. Galilee Yields Ancient Treasure: 2000-Year-Old Craft Matches Description of Peter's Boat

In 1986 two brothers from Kibbutz Ginosar made an archeological discovery in the Sea of Galilee. In the rush to excavate and save what came to be known as the "Jesus Boat, the Israeli government issued a special order to, "lower the level of the Sea of Galilee." Rather than doing so, however, a dike was built to pump water out of the area, as the excavation team carefully worked to preserve the first century craft.
