Rafael Jewelry Silver Round Filigree and Roman Glass Earrings
These earrings will made you feel the ancient word of the Middle East. From the ancient art of filigree to 2000 year old piece of Roman Glass in the center, these earring exude the fascinating ancient world.
Filigree was created in ancient Mesopotamia. The royal jeweler of Yemen were particularly skilled in this intricate wire work.
Roman Glass is found in archeological active places throughout the Holy Land. It is dated at approximately 2000 years old. The weathering of the glass over time and the glass composition is what creates the beautiful iridescence (the shimmering rainbow-like colors) exhibited by the glass. This results in a light encrustation of the surface of the glass. Because the jewelry designer uses only a thin piece of glass it is very delicate. If the glass gets wet, the encrustation on the surface of the glass will deteriorate and it will no longer have the beautiful iridescence which makes it so desirable as a striking piece of jewelry.
